Robin Beelman

Motivational Speaker to visit Logan Acres Senior Community

Robin Beelman has become part of the culture at Logan Acres Senior Community.  She began generously spending time with us by heading up our wildly successful benefit which is  a  Quarter Auction affectionately known as Pink Thursday.  She then began using her abilities to organize like minded groups of ladies to volunteer for special projects.  Robin has also offered her gifts by speaking during staff meetings to uplift and encourage by offering strategies to "Live Your Best Life".  Most recently, Robin has been using her creativity as part of the planning committee for the 10th Anniversary of Girls Night Out-Celebration of Women's Health which is a gathering of 250 women to take place on April 25th, 2014.  

This special lady has consistently beaten the odds to achieve phenomenal success in her life and business.  She dropped out of high school due to health problems, but obtained her GED just one month later.  She then left a career as a Massage Therapist to sell handbags - quickly ascending to Senior Executive Director with Thirty-One Gifts.  Today, Robin travels the country from her Ohio home to speak with audiences seeking her candid and entertaining advice on how to create a better life for themselves.

Robin is known for her enthusiasm, high energy and skill as a motivator and trainer and her strong message is contagious.Success is a choice that once committed to can be achieved!  A dynamic storyteller, Robin presents her ideas and thoughts in a conversational style using creative humor to impact her audience and effectively provide them with the belief skills needed to attain personal and professional success.

Robin has demonstrated by her own example, determination and hard work, that any goal can be achieved & we are once again looking forward to Robin inspiring us again tomorrow as she offers her encouraging words!

• Family Conversations for Older Drivers
• Get help finding the right words when you take the We Need to Talk seminar. Sponsored by AARP Driver Safety, this class guides families in determining when it's time for their loved ones to hang up the keys.  While knowing when the time is right can be hard, surveys show that more than half of older drivers whose family asked them to retire from driving said they listened to and followed the suggestions of others.

• The Meaning of Driving-Find out what driving means to older adults and the emotions they may face when having to give it up.

The Golden Anniversary of Ed & Jewell Berry

 

The gift of marriage is celebrated yearly and one by one, the years pass and then as if by surprise…there it is…a Golden Anniversary.  All couples have a choice on how to spend those days that turn to years…whether by simply being busy or by being fruitful.  Clearly, Ed and Jewell Berry would be considered fruitful as they have offered much of their life together in the service of others.

This journey of 50 years began on November 3^rd, 1963 in the parsonage of the Roundhead Methodist Church.  When I ponder this simple wedding ceremony in the autumn of the year, a sense of warmth and intimacy surrounds me. It is not difficult to imagine a young and in love Jewel & Ed stepping over the parsonage threshold to begin their new life, surrounded by the beauty of colorful fall leaves. They were then blessed to expand their family with 2 biological children 1 adopted. The doors to their home had well used hinges as they welcomed many with loving hospitality. Somehow, energy was also found to share their gifts and talents with a local 4H club.  As time progressed, this special couple opened their home to children that would benefit from their love and attention through foster care.  They tirelessly gave of their moments to nurture the least of these and as a testament to their character they remain involved in many of their lives.

Ed and Jewel continue in their endeavors of service as they tackle whatever needs done as volunteers at Logan Acres Senior Community.  They can be seen playing cards, assisting at parties, joining outings and so much more. They have baked cakes for staff and residents for birthday celebrations and visited the lonely in the hospital.  Their authenticity can be felt all.

Ed and Jewell continue to nurture long term relationships with friends and are quite involved in the Church of God in Bellefontaine.  They can be found with the Senior Saints, assisting with community events as well as preparing and serving some of the tastiest food in Logan County.

Ed and Jewell, we thank you for the example of marriage you have set before us and are grateful we are able to celebrate with you, these 50 years of marriage.

To Everything There is a Season

It has been about a month now since Gail Lirette retired from Logan Acres Senior Community and it still seems as if she will pop her head into an office or resident room any minute just to say "Good Morning". 

Gail  served Logan Acres  for 13 years with an official title of Director of Nutrition, but anyone that knows her is aware of the fact she used her time and energy to benefit not only the residents that chose to live here but the surrounding area as well. She generously made herself available to  civic organizations, such as the Kiwinis and Logan County Chamber Ambassadors to help strengthen the sense of community the residents of Bellefontaine enjoy.

Just one of her many notable accomplishments was being  a co-creator of  "Girls Night Out" in Logan County which will celebrate it's 10th anniversary in 2013.  She tirelessly offered her gifts and talents to this event in order to encourage and educate the women of Logan County and for this we are grateful.

Gail was and is a friend and  mentor to many.  By her example and intentional leading  in her career, not only at Logan Acres but previous employment, much has been learned and her legacy professionalism will continue.

While we miss her  expertise, quick witted sense of humor and ability to get the the heart of an issue in a flash, we are happy she is able to enjoy her hard earned leisure time. 

Legacy of Excellence

 

7 years ago today

Cathy Riegel, our beloved Director of Social Services is radiant as she remembers the big move to all private rooms at Logan Acres Care Center.   She states that "on July 25, 2006 the residents & staff of Logan Acres paraded down the highway to our new building.  We celebrated our first lunch and began settling into our new digs.  It really was fantastic,  we thought it would take all day but thanks to the help of a lot of volunteers we were finished in 2 hours!"

Today we continue to enjoy the fresh air and sunshine on the same  land that was purchased in 1849, now with the blessing of a modern building to call home.  Our  rural setting can be enjoyed comfortably from the many landscaped outdoor areas and sunrooms.  Folks can be seen daily rocking on the front porch with family and friends.  A favorite pastime is shooting the breeze while taking in the view of the tall corn just awaiting harvest...how appropriate, since Logan Acres remained a working farm until 1980.

Innumerable things have changed but thanks to  the servant leadership of many over the years, the essence of Logan Acres has remained the same, ensuring our Legacy of Excellence for a long time to come.  

 

25th Anniversary with Logan Acres

Celebrate!

25 years ago today, Carrie Wireman began her long career at Logan Acres.  She fondly  remembers  her first day of work as a State Tested Nursing Assistant , especially her fellow staff that she began her journey with.  A few moments were spent today reminiscing of days gone by, bringing a smile to the face of those who took part as well as those who wish they had.

Carrie holds dear her memories of times in the "old building" as she used her skills to bring comfort to those in her charge but has great appreciation for the beautiful "new building" and what it offers the folks that choose to live here. 

Not only is Carrie the oldest of 8 children and often helped tend to her younger siblings, she lived with & cared for her Grandmother for many years and gives credit to her for having taught her a lot.   The time spent as a caregiver of her family helped solidify her career choice of nurturing others. 

   We are thankful for the countless minutes, hours and days that Carrie has given to the residents of Logan Acres over 25 years. No doubt, she has made a difference in more lives than she or we will ever know.   She continues to provide great stability in Mill Creek, our Memory Care area,  as a key employee.  On her days off, residents ask for her and eagerly await her return.  She is a warm and genuine individual and when asked why she has served in this way for so long, she simply states "I love the people".   

Well, Carrie Wireman, the people love you too.

Moving for Better Balance

 

 Tai chi

Another complimentary batch of Tai chi manuals have been published for those completing the most recent class.  Tai chi: Moving for Better Balance is a free of charge wellness program led by Mary Foust at Logan Acres Senior Community.  

Tai chi is a series of smooth individual dance-like movements and studies have shown that adults experience many health benefits including improved functional balance and physical performance; reduced frequency of falls; lowered blood presure; improved mental and physical well being; improved cardiovascular and respiratory function; improved sleep quality; and enhanced life independence and overall health through this ancient Chinese practice.

The sessions are sprinkled with laughter as participants not only improve their fitness but enjoy a unique  camarderie as they get to know one another.  For more information on this complimentary 13 session class, call Kathryn at 599-7293.

~Theresa Hoffman...Thank You for 31 Years~

On a late summer day many years ago, as a 17 year old senior in High School,  Theresa Hoffman began her long career of offering herself to others at Logan Acres.  August 15th, 1980 is a day she will not soon forget as it began her 31 years of dedicated service to the residents, families, volunteers and staff on these grounds. We thank her for her steadfastness & giving of herself.

As her first and only job, Teresa has spent her days not only fulfilling her duties in the Dietary Department but also developing and nurturing relationships with many within our walls, she will be missed.

Upon her retirement tomorrow, Theresa plans to travel and has hopes of catching up on some sleep as in recent years, she has arrived ready to work at 5a.m....we'll be eager to hear if she can stay up past her customary 8p.m. bedtime anytime soon!

Get-N-Fit with the YMCA

The Homestead at Logan Acres is excited to announce a special partnership with the Hilliker YMCA. 

We are offering a free, low-impact class where active adults can sit or stand while working out to enhance cardio, strength, balance and coordination. 

(Similar to the YMCA’s Sit-n-Fit class)

Classes will be offered every Thursday at 1pm, starting June 7th at The Homestead at Logan Acres

Logan Acres Community Yard Sale !!!

Fri., June 22nd from 9am - 4pm

Looking for antique dealers, flea market vendors, independent consultants or just individuals who want a convenient way to sell those garage and yard sale items!

Space sizes are 13x18’, $25 per space or two spaces for $40. Participants must provide their own tables and be present to man their spaces.

Proceeds will go to the Logan Acres Animal Care Fund

Volunteer Appreciation Night

Last night we celebrated another year of service by our wonderful volunteer staff. Their time, talent, and extraordinary effort help make the Logan Acres experience truly enjoyable for our residents. Thank you to all who have volunteered at our facility. If you or anyone you know would like to volunteer in some fashion please feel free to contact us. We want to say a special thank you to Connie for almost 16 years of service to Logan Acres. Connie may have retired today, but we don't expect it to be the last time she graces our campus. We wish you the best!

And The Survey Says...Residents Love Logan Acres !!!

Logan Acres continues to build upon its legacy of excellence according to the results of the latest Resident Satisfaction Survey conducted by the Ohio Department of Aging. Logan Acres overall score of 90.3 was slightly higher than that of the same survey taken two years ago. One of the many highlights were the scores related to resident choice, specifically when they can rise, go to bed, and personalize their rooms. All of these components are integral to our Person Centered Care approach. 


We are pleased by the results but are always looking for ways to improve. This tool provides important data for us to utilize as we continue to work on our legacy.

The Family Series - Online Education to Understand Aging

Logan Acres is excited to announce the availability of online courses to help understand the aging process. The courses, in partnership with Upstairs Solutions, provide valuable information to friends and family members of individuals residing in or considering a senior care community. The courses are free and cover a wide range of topics such as Advance Directives, Diabetes, Dementia, and a Medicare overview.
